This August we returned to Tucson, the lightning capital, to photograph lightning.
It was already dark when we returned to our lodging after photographing the evening lightning. Soon after, lightning began to flash not far from our lodging, followed by a deafening clap of thunder. I immediately set up my camera under a gazebo, adjusted the settings, and set it to automatically take a picture every 10 seconds. When I checked the photos after the lightning and thunder subsided, I was astonished to find this picture looked like an angel from heaven! The profile of this little girl looked incredibly lifelike, as if she had spread her wings and descended to earth. Nature is truly amazing; it used its divine craftsmanship to create this unique silhouette of a little girl through the lightning. This photo became the most unforgettable lightning photograph that I took this year.
Lightning photos are never repetitive or homogenized. Every time I capture lightning, I'm eager to see what pattern it will present and what surprises it will bring. This is why I'm so fascinated by photographing lightning.
By the way: The weather was extremely hot when we passed through the desert area on our way to Tucson, with temperatures ranging from 104°F to 118°F. We were worried about the temperature damaging the car, so we turned the car air conditioning on and off intermittently.
